What's the weather like on Isla de Margarita Island, Venezuela?

The daytime temperatures at Playa El Agua, a major tourist destination on the Island of Margarita, range from 26ºC (78ºF) in January to 31ºC (87ºF) in September. Nighttime temperatures are about 3 to 5 degrees cooler. Isla Margarita is basically a desert island and there have been years when we have had no measurable rain for 6 months or longer. 2003 & 2004 were very dry years with more than 93% of our days with 6 hours of sun or more.

If we are going to have rain then it is most likely to occur from mid-June to mid-July and from mid-November until early January. This does NOT mean that we have a rainy season where it rains continuously for days. When we get rain it usually lasts for a short time (a few hours or less) and then the sun comes out. We have very few days where it rains for the whole day. In the almost 18 years we have lived on this tropical island there have only been 3 occasions when, due to atmospheric anomalies, there was a period of 3 days of continuous rain or more.

The reason for this lengthy explanation is we have been receiving e-mails asking about the "rainy season". Many other sites including one well known weather site from Europe have been using either incorrect data or data from mainland Venezuela which is totally unrelated to the Island. Their temperature reports for Porlamar and the constant indication of "thunderstorms" is totally incorrect. When is winter on Margarita Island?

We are located 11ºN of the equator so we are in the Northern Hemisphere and winter is just like the USA or Europe. (By the way, what is winter?)
